It becomes extremely necessary to limit electrical consumption in order to save money and minimise utility costs by utilising electrical utility and operating at the required power factor in order to prevent unwelcome electricity penalties from increasing due to persistent power factor decline.

By directly sensing the reactive load using the VAR (Volt Ampere Reactive) sensing principle, an APFC panel with a stage-based, pre-programmable microcontroller of different makes triggers capacitor banks of the appropriate capacity automatically in multiple stages, tending to keep the PF at 0.99 Lag. The customer-required load pattern determines how many stages (4, 6, 8, 12, and 16) of capacitor banks are chosen.
